Strength, hope, and perseverance are the central themes of the San Diego Master Chorale’s self-produced Spring 2019 performance, which takes its name from “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing.” Widely considered the “Black National Anthem” (and adopted as official song of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in 1921), “Lift” encouraged American blacks to keep fighting for their lives, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness in the face of early-1900s Jim Crow discrimination. This program will feature “Lift,” along with popular works by Stevie Wonder, the Beatles, and essential choral works by Randall Thompson, Johannes Brahms, Dale Warland, and Southern California’s own contemporary composer Shawn Kirchner. It will feature elementary school students from the Chula Vista Elementary School District’s VAPA (Visual and Performing Arts) program, 100 voices from the San Diego Master Chorale, recording artist Leonard Patton as soloist, and audience singing as well!
This event is free for children. Adult tickets are $10 for those accompanying children,;$15 for seniors (65+); and $20 for other adults.
